This article discusses some new note-taking or writing apps. The trend that note-taking apps seem to follow is to combine text- and folder-based organization of content with various ways to visually display and combine content, in the form of mind maps or other types of graphs, visual work desk layouts, and content blocks linked to documents.

What was not clear to me in the article is, for example, how mature the tools are (start-up, well-established etc), how the tools help a user in a publishing workflow (exporting and converting capabilities) or whether it is possible to download all content, in case the user wishes to migrate. Also: does the tool work on iPad or on mobile phone?

And also, what are experiences in case of thousands of notes held in the database?

Finally, what is the cost of ownership of these tools? Using lots of apps for different purposes quickly causes to leak substantial money.
